School of Mongolian Studies is atalent training and academic research institution based on the discipline of Mongolian Studies--- an advantageousdistinctive discipline of Inner Mongolia University.
When Inner Mongolia University was founded in 1957, Department of Mongolian Language and Literature and History Department were set up to train the special talents needed for the country and the autonomous region.In 1962, research institutes specialized in Mongolian language and Mongolian history were established---Mongolian History Laboratory and Mongolian language Laboratory. Mongolian History Laboratory and Mongolian Language Laboratory respectively became Mongolian History Institute and Mongolian Language Institute in 1972 and 1982 directly subordinate to the university. From then on, Mongolian studies of Inner Mongolia University has entered the period of all-round development.In order to promote the construction of the group of Mongolian studies , in 1995 , Inner Mongolia University combinedDepartment of Mongolian Language &Literature, Mongolian Language Institute, Mongolian History Institute, Institute of Modern and Contemporary History of Inner Mongolia, andInstitute of Neighboring Countries to form Academy of Mongolian Studies.In 2000, it was renamed School of Mongolian Studies, with the school system administration .In 2010, the university established a relatively independent teaching and research institute---the Mongolian History Department based on the Mongolian History Institute and Institute of Modern and Contemporary History of Inner Mongolia.
Mongolian Language and Literature Discipline,Yuan History Discipline and Chinese National History Discipline began the admission of graduate students in 1962 and 1978.In 1981, the authorized centers for master’s degree of Chinese Minority Language and Literature,Yuan History, and Chinese National History were established. In 1984 and 1990respectively, the authorized centers for doctor’s degree of Chinese Language and Literature and SpecializedHistory were established, and in 2011,the authorized centers for doctor’s degree of the first level discipline of Chinese Language and Literature and Chinese Historywere granted a doctorate degree wereapproved.Respectively in 2002 and 2009, the Postdoctoral Research Stations of China's Minority Language and Literature and SpecializedHistory were set up.In 2011, the Postdoctoral Research Stations of Chinese Language and Literature and Chinese History were approved and established.
During the " Twelfth Five-Year Plan", the academic research platforms such as “Research Center for Applied Linguistics”“Center for Mongolian History Archival Documents”, “Research Center for Historical Geography of Mongolian Plateau”, “Research Center for Cultural Relationship Between Mongolia and Tibet, Inner Mongolia University”, “Janggar Research Center, Inner Mongolia University”, and “Research Center for the Ancient Scripts of Northern Nationalities, Inner Mongolia University ” were established."Machine Translation Joint Laboratory","Sociolinguistics Laboratory", "Mongolian News Transmitting Laboratory Center" and "Mongolian Literature Center" and other laboratories and supporting facilities have also been established. In the past 60 years, the school has actively applied itself to the development of national higher education, established the integratedhigher education teaching system covering undergraduates, postgraduates, doctoral education and postdoctoral scientific research station trainingfor the country and the autonomous region a large number of outstanding talents, and achieving excellent results in discipline construction .Since its foundation, the discipline group has cultivated 4,312 undergraduates, 1,198 master students and 271 doctoral students, and sent a large number of outstanding talents to different industries and organizations home and abroad. The Mongolian Language and Literature Discipline became a national key discipline in 1988,and in 1995, it became key construction discipline of the State-level"Project 211" and "Talent Cultivationand Scientific Research Base of National Basic Subjects".In 2008, Mongolian Language and Literature was rated as a national-leveldiscipline, and in 2009, it became the experimental zone of national talent cultivation model.Through the unremitting efforts of several generations, School of Mongolian Studies has become a base of talent cultivation and academic research with distinctive features and advantages.
At present, there are 1113 students in the school, including 801 undergraduates, 245 postgraduate students, 42 doctoral students and 25 overseas students.
School of Mongolian Studies now has 80 teaching and administrative staff members.There are 4 party and government officials, 74 teaching and research personnel, and 2 teaching assistants.There are 21 professors, 22 associate professors and 31 lecturers.There are 15 doctoral supervisors and 36 master supervisors.
Among the full-time teachers, there is one distinguished professor of “Changjiang Scholars Program” of Ministry of Education , one selected personnel of the National "New Century Talents Project" , one leading personnel of the National “Ten thousand people plan”, one expert of Discipline Appraisal Group of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, one expert of the Review Group ofNational Philosophy and Social Science, one committee member of the Teaching Steering Committee of Ministry of Education.Three famous teachers from the autonomous region, three excellent graduate supervisors of the autonomous region level, and one excellent young teacherin the teaching of autonomous region.
